Briar Road works
Learn more about upcoming works on Briar Road
March 2025
We are upgrading Briar Road as part of Stage 7A works. The underpass, at the corner of Briar Road and Riverside Drive, will be removed and replaced with a roundabout.
Construction of 94 residential lots started late last year and will take around 12-14 months to complete. Starting in March 2025, the existing roads (Southdown Place, Teeswater Place, Dangar Way, and Coldenham Way) will be closed and demolished. This closure is necessary for safe and efficient roadworks.
The contractor, WEM will implement an alternative pedestrian pathway along Riverside Drive to maintain access to Riverside Drive and Briar Road. We will also upgrade and realign Riverside Drive and Briar Road to remove the underpass to improve general safety.
For any works near Briar Road Public School and Airds High School, we have made it a priority for the contractor to schedule these works during school holidays, where they can, to ensure the schools’ daily operations remain unaffected. This commitment will be embedded in the contractor’s work program and methodology. We will provide regular updates to keep the community informed as the project progress.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact Amber Clarke, Landcom’s Communications and Engagement Officer, on 02 9841 8659 or email aclarke@landcom.nsw.gov.au.

• Saturdays, 8am–1pm
• Sundays and public holidays – no work.
What should I expect?
• workers and vehicles

• noise and vibration from machinery and equipment.
How are impacts being managed?
Some of the measures that we will take to minimise potential impacts of construction on our neighbours include:
• regularly wetting down the site to control dust and installing mesh fencing to reduce the spread of dust
• implementing erosion and sediment controls to minimise stormwater runoff
• regularly sweeping the streets to keep them tidy
• maintaining bus stops in their current locations for the majority of the works period. Temporary bus stops will be in place during portion of works period to allow for road upgrade.
Will I still be able to access the school?
Yes. Temporary road changes will be in place to:
• provide full-time access to Briar Road Public School and Airds High School for students, teachers, and school workers
• support traffic flow to ensure vehicles, including buses can efficiently move about.
Can I still access the footpath and bus stops?
Yes. pedestrians will be able to access all bus stops and existing footpaths on Riverside Drive during the works period. The works will create a permanent new bus stop on Riverside Drive.
We intend to keep all the existing bus stops active during construction however bus stop number 3 (as shown on map below) may not be active for a small period during construction works. These will be further determined and advised by the civil contractor. We will keep you informed with the latest information.
Why aren’t traffic lights being installed instead of the roundabout?
Roundabouts generally provide more benefits than traffic lights, including improved safety, slower vehicle speeds, continuous flow of traffic, improved visibility and less signal waiting.
Will there be an additional crossing once the roundabout has been built?
Yes, a zebra crossing will be built to the north of the roundabout to enable pedestrians to cross Riverside Drive to enter the school or access the new bus stop.
