Oran Park Town vision wins award for excellence

Landcom (trading as UrbanGrowth NSW) and Greenfields Development Company’s shared vision of creating a vibrant new community at Oran Park Town in Sydney’s southwest has been recognised with an industry award for excellence.

Urban Taskforce Australia has named Oran Park Town as the winner of the 2017 Development Excellence Award for a Masterplanned Community Development.

The project is a partnership between UrbanGrowth NSW and Greenfields Development Company that will eventually service a catchment area for 120,000 people over the next 20 years.

“Since the first sod was turned in 2008, Oran Park Town has become one of the largest masterplanned communities in NSW, and is now Sydney’s fastest growing town with more than 7,500 residents,” said UrbanGrowth NSW Acting Chief Executive Barry Mann.

“It is an exemplar of how government-private sector collaboration has allowed not only the successful delivery of housing supply, but also the creation of an urban centre that meets the employment, education, health and recreational needs of future generations,” Mr Mann said.

UrbanGrowth NSW’s Head of Western Sydney projects, Matthew Beggs said Oran Park Town was recognised as a benchmark for development in southwest Sydney. “It is a vibrant, masterplanned community that delivers sustainable living with a focus on lifelong education, the delivery of early infrastructure and amenity, and the provision of a walkable neighbourhood with a diverse mix of housing.”

Greenfields joined UrbanGrowth NSW in accepting the award. “We’re delighted that this project has won another accolade and look forward to our shared vision unfolding in the months and years ahead,” said Greenfields Project Director Mark Perich.

Work is well underway at Oran Park Town with many infrastructure and community facilities completed, including two schools and planning for a third, a childcare centre with another two under development, sporting fields, multiple bus services, a retirement village and an integrated primary health care centre.

The first stage of the Oran Park Podium Shopping Centre has opened and about 50 businesses have moved into the commercial tower. A Smart Work Hub, the first of its kind in southwest Sydney, offers high-speed Wi-Fi, flexible work spaces, meeting rooms and presentation facilities with a capacity for over 100 people each day.

Oran Park Town will become the geographical centre of the Camden local government area. Camden Council opened its new Administration Headquarters at Oran Park in September 2016 and a Regional Library is currently under construction.
