Green Square’s tallest building reaches completion

This milestone was celebrated with a ceremony attended by NSW Minister for Planning and Housing Anthony Roberts, Landcom CEO, John Brogden, Mirvac CEO and Managing Director, Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz and Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp (FJMT) design director, Richard Francis-Jones.

Mr Roberts unveiled a commemorative plaque for the building, which is the second Landcom and Mirvac building to be completed at Green Square, following the completion of Ebsworth in early 2017.

Mr Brogden said the completion of the flagship OVO building was a great example of a successful urban renewal project that had transformed a former industrial area into an attractive, sought after community.

“Landcom has been given a new mandate from the NSW Government - to take a lead role in improving the supply, diversity and affordability of new housing in Sydney and NSW,” Mr Brogden said.

“Landcom is meeting this commitment by working with government agencies and private sector companies, such as Mirvac, to deliver a range of housing types that are sustainable, innovative and attractive places to live at various price points across Sydney.

“Landcom looks forward to working with Mirvac on the next stage of Green Square Town Centre, which will provide even more housing choices for future residents.”

Designed by FJMT in partnership with Mirvac Design, OVO features a distinctive ellipsoid-shaped tower taking advantage of the prime views of the city and beyond. The stunning façade of the building has one of the most complex colour, detail and manufacturing systems Mirvac has delivered, including approximately 1,800 panels in 134 different shapes and 17 different colours.

Mirvac’s CEO and Managing Director, Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz said: “The completion of OVO represents the culmination of visionary design and construction to deliver a landmark building that will be home to more than 600 new Green Square residents.

“Mirvac’s vision is to reimagine urban life and OVO is testament to that. It is an iconic building that transforms the skyline and is the result of extensive planning and collaboration between Landcom, City of Sydney, FJMT and Mirvac.”

OVO’s 224 apartments contribute to a total of 302 apartments that have been delivered across three buildings on this site. OVO is the gateway to the heart of the Green Square Town Centre, on the corner of Bourke Street and Ebsworth Street.

Green Square’s high street along Ebsworth Street now features a 2,000 square metre Woolworths supermarket and The Social Corner - a community space and cafe. The Social Corner is the venue for an ongoing events and activation series run by Green Square’s dedicated Place Manager, designed to foster resident connections as the community grows.

Just a short walk to the Green Square Train Station, OVO is linked to the Sydney CBD and beyond by an extensive public transport network, offering residents complete ‘walkability’ of this highly-connected location.

Later this year, the City of Sydney will open the civic plaza and library, with more amenities, such as parks and an aquatic centre, set to open in the coming years. This has followed the completion of a $32 million community and cultural precinct, complete with a three-storey creative centre, which opened in May 2018.

Mirvac and Landcom are successfully building a strong community at Green Square with the completion of the first two developments.
