Parramatta Road Consultation Outcomes Report Released

The views of 10 councils and feedback from more than 3,500 people will help inform the NSW Government’s 30-year strategy to renew the Parramatta Road corridor, one of Sydney’s most congested thoroughfares.

UrbanGrowth NSW today released the Consultation Outcomes Report, which contains the findings from extensive public consultation on the draft Parramatta Road Urban Transformation Strategy.

“There is wide agreement in the community that the Corridor is not living up to its potential,” said UrbanGrowth NSW Chief Executive David Pitchford.

“In fact, 97% of respondents agree that the Corridor needs to be revitalised.  People want less traffic, more attractive public spaces and better public transport.”

Mr Pitchford said UrbanGrowth NSW has been working closely with the community and councils on a long term, sustainable plan for the Corridor that will see growth and renewal focused in eight Precincts along the Corridor, which stretches from Granville in the west to Camperdown in the east.

“While the feedback varied from Precinct to Precinct, there is broad consensus from councils and the communities that development needs to be sensitive to local character.

“We also know that population growth needs to be supported by public transport, social infrastructure, open space and amenity improvements.”

Mr Pitchford said the next step in the process is to finalise the Parramatta Road Urban Transformation Strategy with councils and state agencies, informed by this feedback. Work on this is now underway and should be completed mid year.

The final Strategy will then inform the Greater Sydney Commission District Plans, Local Environmental Plans and define funding mechanisms for state and regional infrastructure.
