From former defence land to providing long term services for defence personnel.

Landcom is progressing a significant rectification and upgrade program at Bardia Barracks, supporting its adaptive reuse by defence support service provider RSL LifeCare.

Located at its Edmondson Park site, Landcom has invested in extensive remediation, conservation and site‑wide upgrades to enable the adaptive reuse of this important heritage site.

The works have focused on restoring and protecting WWII‑era buildings and memorials, upgrading essential services, improving accessibility and safety, and enhancing landscaping and outdoor gathering spaces.

These upgrades ensure the site’s long‑term sustainability while honouring its military history and supporting its transformation into a welcoming, dignified space for veterans, their families and the wider community.

Bardia Barracks forms part of the wider former Ingleburn Defence site, which Landcom has progressively transformed from legacy defence land into a thriving new community, delivering homes, parks, infrastructure and now renewed community facilities that continue the site’s service to the public.

Landcom has also transformed other former defence sites, including Thornton in Penrith, where a 40-hectare site was redeveloped into a mixed use community delivering more than 2,000 homes, including affordable housing, alongside retail and commercial uses.

Landcom CEO Alex Wendler said, “Landcom has a proud history of transforming former defence sites for community and housing outcomes.”

“This project continues that track record, revitalising Bardia Barracks for use by RSL Lifecare.”

Services are expected to open in mid-2026.
