Park access and timelines

Areas of park now open

30 Apr 2026
Shared active open space (completed Feb 2026)
To provide the community with access as soon as possible, we aim to open areas of the four-hectare park at Wentworth Point in stages as they’re ready.
From the end April 2026 the community can access the:
  • new local road and carpark east of the high school
  • shared active open space outside of school hours.
Additional works should be signed off in mid-May 2026 and the community can then access the:
  • shared pedestrian and cycle path, which improves access around the peninsula and to the ferry wharf
  • fitness equipment along the waterfront shared path.

The shared active open space was opened to Wentworth Point High School and Public School students for Term 1 2026, with access directly from their respective school grounds. The grass expands the available outdoor space for students.

Sharing public infrastructure and resources between schools and growing communities offers a unique opportunity to deliver better outcomes for all and increases land use efficiency. Shared use arrangements are in place with schools and communities across NSW.

Scheduling for shared use arrangements at the active open space (e.g. bookings by community, social and sporting groups) can be confirmed once the park is complete and has been handed over to the appropriate government landowner and/or manager.

Park delivery timing

Construction is progressing as efficiently as possible and we appreciate the community’s ongoing patience and understanding.

As Wentworth Point was industrial land and we needed to update planning controls to make room for the new high school, a lot of work has been required to deliver the park.

We recently finalised the design and construction program for the last stage of works. Subject to weather, final approvals and material delivery, we now expect all areas of the park, including the playground, picnic areas and grass lawns, to be opened to the public towards the end of 2026. Some facilities or equipment may need to be finished in the new year.

Work hours are 7am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am-4pm Saturdays.

Future mixed-use development

We’re in the process of selling the mixed-use site at 9 Burroway Road to its future owner. This future owner will be a like-minded developer able to deliver the buildings and realise our vision for the site, which includes a mix of apartments, new shops and additional public space.

The future owner will need to submit a detailed development application before construction can begin and will also manage apartment sales.

The site sale follows approval from the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in October 2025 of our development application for a revised mixed-use precinct.

Park works progressing, mixed-use development approved

Works are progressing well to deliver four hectares of waterfront public space at Wentworth Point. We have nearly finished ground remediation and earthworks. Works will then shift above ground, and we will begin landscaping next month. New trees and plants will soon bring the space to life as a relaxing and green place for the community to enjoy.
