Landcom has achieved third place across Asia Pacific in the 2019 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Developer Assessment, and fourth globally.

Landcom is the only government land organisation in the world to participate alongside publicly listed and private companies in GRESB, which assesses environmental, social and governance management and implementation performance.

Landcom’s Director Sustainability & Learning, Lauren Kajewski, said it was gratifying to see the organisation hold its leadership position in Landcom’s third year of participation.

“GRESB is an independent, globally recognised benchmarking assessment for the real estate sector.  It provides participants and stakeholders with valuable, transparent, and internationally recognised evaluation of development activities.  It also enables Landcom to track our performance against industry peers, reveals best practice trends, and helps us identify emerging issues” Ms Kajewski said.

“Landcom’s high performance in the Developer Assessment reflects our activities in 2019 financial year.  During this time we also became a Participant to the United Nations Global Compact, and ramped up our contribution towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  This is in keeping with our aim to enable carbon neutral, water positive and zero waste communities by 2028.”

Landcom’s participation is GRESB is a key part of the organisation’s Sustainability Places Strategy, which is committed to industry leadership in environmental, social, economic and governance within the development sector. 

“Each year we see strong leadership from Australian development companies participating in GRESB, and we congratulate our peers for their continued strong results.  We’re aiming to improve our performance even further in 2020.”

GRESB Head of Asia Pacific Ruben Langbroek said Landcom had shown strong demonstrative leadership in sustainable urban development.

“Landcom continues to demonstrate a high commitment to material topics such as liveability, resilience and environmental quality,” Mr Langbroek said.

“This has resulted in Landcom receiving a GRESB Score of 91/100 in the GRESB Developer Assessment, and maintaining a 5 star GRESB rating this year.

“We’re delighted to have Landcom as the first and only government land developer globally to participate in GRESB.”

This year 1,005 property companies, real estate investment trusts, funds, and developers participated in GRESB.  This covered 64 countries and represented more than $USD 4.5 trillion in real asset value.
