Landcom celebrates making 110,000 homes happen

800 new homes for former Tweed Hospital site
Landcom has reached a major milestone in its 50-year history, celebrating 110,000 homes unlocked following one of its recent land releases at Edmondson Park in Sydney’s south west.
139 lots have been sold in the Mondo development, with future residents gathering at an event over the weekend to begin building connections within their new community.
Among the new purchases is first home buyer Ali Raza, who plans to build a home for his wife and two children in one of Sydney’s fastest growing areas.
Theirs is among the 110,000 homes made possible by Landcom since it was established in 1976. Originally created as the Land Commission of NSW, it released its first land for sale at St Claire Estate, St Mary’s in Sydney’s west, where a total of 320 fully developed and serviced lots were offered.
Over the decades, Landcom has developed land for the delivery of new communities helping lead the growth of major centres in Western Sydney and Sydney’s east, along with new developments in regional areas including Lismore, Orange and Bomaderry.
Edmondson Park is one of Landcom’s largest developments, transforming former defence land into a masterplanned community delivering up to 8,000 new homes for around 20,000 people.
Since the project commenced in 2011 Landcom has unlocked over 4,500 new homes.
The community is supported by schools, public transport, parks, shops and a regional park, with cycleways and walkways creating a walkable, active lifestyle.
Landcom is partnering with local government and industry to deliver homes, public spaces, transport links and community facilities that reflect local heritage and support a welcoming, connected place to live.
The NSW Government, through the support of Landcom, has recently transferred Bardia Barracks in Edmondson Park to RSL LifeCare, where it will form part of the Federal Government’s Veterans’ and Families’ Hub network.

For 50 years Landcom has been making homes happen for the people of NSW. Landcom was originally established in response to the shortages of development land and now half a century later, our purpose has never been more important.
Edmondson Park is a fantastic example of Landcom’s role in turning government policy into reality, unlocking more homes, places and green spaces to create a world class community.
Our project pipeline builds on our legacy and in this year of celebrations, we’re proud to see our development activity gaining momentum.
Member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong MP
Edmondson Park is one of Western Sydney’s great success stories.
This is proof of what can be achieved when the NSW Government and Landcom work together to unlock land to build new communities.
Congratulations to Landcom on its 50-year celebrations.
