Landcom and Mirvac are celebrating their partnership with the City of Sydney on the Green Square Town Centre after the Green Building Council of Australia awarded the development a 6 Star Green Star Communities rating.

Landcom’s CEO John Brogden said that the 6 Star Green Star rating was the highest rating achievable and denotes a world leadership standard.

“Landcom and Mirvac are incredibly proud to have achieved this 6 Star Green Star Communities rating through their partnership with the City of Sydney,” Mr Brogden said.

“The 6 Star Green Star Communities rating demonstrates Landcom’s very strong commitment to providing great sustainability outcomes in liveable and sustainable communities.”

The Green Building Council of Australia introduced its internationally recognised precinct-based communities rating tool in 2012 and it aims to recognise developers and projects that demonstrate sustainability leadership in the sector.

Projects are rated rigorously and holistically across five impact categories – liveability, governance, economic prosperity, environment and innovation.

Mr Brogden said that Landcom and Mirvac’s collaboration with the City of Sydney and other developers to support the successful Green Star application will continue to ensure the precinct retains its 6 Star accreditation.

“Landcom and Mirvac are committed to driving design and sustainability leadership across the board, with both companies adopting leading sustainability strategies and achieving high performance in international benchmarks,” Mr Brogden said.

“In 2018 Mirvac achieved second position on the international Down Jones Sustainability Index and Landcom was awarded fourth place globally in the Developer Assessment for the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark.” 

Mirvac’s Group General Manager of Sustainability Sarah Clarke said Mirvac and Landcom wanted to ensure both organisations leave behind a positive legacy.

“In the decades to come, Mirvac and Landcom want to look back on a vibrant, liveable neighbourhood at Green Square,” Ms Clarke said.

“We want to be proud not only of the sustainability features of Green Square, but also our successful placemaking program which fosters community connections and social cohesion.”

“Landcom and Mirvac are committed to the long-term vision of urban renewal for the Green Square Town Centre,” Mr Brogden said.

“We are now seeing this long-term vision coming to life as we build on Landcom’s initial investment of $110 million over the next 10 years.”

The Town Centre is taking shape with the City of Sydney providing world class infrastructure such as the Green Square library and aquatic centre, and mixed-use buildings bringing some 2,000 additional residents and many new shops to the village over coming months.
