Making new infrastructure happen for North Wilton
The first residents have started moving into 430 new homes at the Hills Showground village, marking the completion of the latest development under the NSW Government’s Sydney Metro Northwest Places initiative.
The new homes less than a stone’s throw from the Hills Showground Metro station have been delivered alongside retail space which is expected to create 400 on going jobs.
This development exemplifies the Minns Labor Governments approach of delivering homes close to jobs, public transport and green space.
The Sydney Metro Northwest Places program is set to deliver 10,000 homes from Epping to Tallawong on Government land at the doorstep of Metro stations.
These new homes will also be supported by the Minns Labor Government’s investment in adding more than 600 new permanent classrooms across the Hills and North-West Sydney and the $910 million joint state and federal investment in the new Rouse Hill Hospital.
Every one of the homes being delivered under this program will help us address the state’s housing challenges delivering vital new well-located homes for young people, families and essential workers.
The program has been building momentum under the Minns Labor Government with sites expected to deliver 2000 homes currently on the market and two sites set to be released before the end of the year.
A further 873 homes already under construction in the East of the Hills Showground precinct and construction of 374 apartments including a minimum of 5 per cent affordable has also begun around Epping station.
The Norwest commercial development is also well progressed awaiting approval from the Hills Shire Council.
Later this year we expect contracts to be awarded for sites at Kellyville, Tallawong and Cherrybrook.
The Hills Showground Village is one of eight new community hubs being creating along the Northwest Metro line.
Seven of the eight Sydney Metro Northwest Places are not only delivering homes but retail and community space.
Today’s opening follows the NSW Government’s opening 333 new homes in Tallawong last year.
Premier Chris Minns said:
“Today we’ve seen more new homes delivered for young people, families and essential workers in a prime location at the doorstep of the Hills Showground Metro station.
“These homes aren’t just close to transport they’ve been delivered alongside retail space that’s expected to create 400 on going jobs.
“We aren’t just building more homes we’re building better communities.”
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:
“Every home built in NSW brings us another step closer to tackling the state’s housing challenges.
“These 430 apartments are the first of 10,000 new homes set to be delivered close to jobs, public transport and green space along the Northwest Metro line.
“This is a clear example of investments in transport infrastructure being paired with the opportunity for more homes and jobs.”
Landcom CEO Alex Wendler
“This is a major milestone for Landcom’s Sydney Metro Northwest Places Program. Hills Showgrounds Village offers new homes that are well connected to world class infrastructure, retail and open spaces.
“This development will be joined by many more along the Sydney Metro line between Tallawong and Epping Stations, which together will unlock more than 10,000 new homes.
“Landcom makes homes happen. Projects like this are a great example of our collaboration across the public and private sector to deliver more diverse housing opportunities with great amenity and connectivity.”
