The Lachlan’s Line urban village project at North Ryde is beginning to take shape with construction moving from roads and pathways onto the public park and play area known as Central Park.

“Central Park will be the heart of Lachlan’s Line,” said Head of UrbanGrowth NSW’s Western Sydney Portfolio, Matthew Beggs.
Designed by award-winning architects Bates Smart and Aspect Studios, Central Park will feature a village green, outdoor stage, playgrounds, BBQ, kick-about spaces and a beginner’s skate park, a first for the City of Ryde.

UrbanGrowth NSW is delivering the planning, civil infrastructure, and public amenity for Lachlan’s Line, including the parks, roads, public art and a pedestrian and cycleway bridge.

“UrbanGrowth NSW’s vision for Central Park is for a local destination where family and friends can relax, eat and exercise. It includes a grassed village green with an outdoor stage for performances and special events that will be surrounded by tree-lined paths, cycleways and a landmark piece of public artwork,” he said.

UrbanGrowth NSW has been working with the City of Ryde to develop the public art strategy which will locate public artwork throughout Lachlan’s Line and within Central Park.

“The public artwork is what will make this place truly special,” said Mr Beggs. “They are landmarks which make each space unique.”

Public artwork Fiorire in Bloom by local artist Justin Sarayath will be located between the village green and the children’s playground at Central Park. Fiorire in Bloom is a lively and colourful work that reflects a flower in bloom and the growth of community spirit. The work, to be fabricated in aluminium, stands three metres by three metres and will be a vibrant display of colour, light and texture.

“This work is about connecting people to their past, present and future within a place of play, culture and relaxation,” said Justin. “It is a quirky and fun artwork that speaks to the youthfulness in all of us.”

The children’s playground will include a toddler play area, a large rope tower, climbing wall, a wheelchair accessible spinner and seating for parents and carers.

Outdoor dining areas will overlook the village green and connect Central Park to the retail mixed-used precinct to be developed by Greenland Australia Investment Pty Ltd. The open plaza will connect residents to nearby public transport.

UrbanGrowth NSW will be providing the community with a sneak peak of Lachlan’s Line by the end of this year.
