The UrbanGrowth NSW Oran Park team recently joined the Mayor of Camden, Cr Lara Symkowiak, to turn the first sod of earth at a ceremony marking the start of construction of the new Council Administration Building. UrbanGrowth NSW played a major role in securing the relocation of Council to the Oran Park Town Centre and the new Administration Building will be a major catalyst to the success of the new Town Centre.
Cr Symkowiak said that this was a momentous and historic day for Camden Council and the community.
“Council recently adopted a vision and a range of initiatives to guide the future of the Camden Town Centre to ensure that it is a distinct, prosperous and vibrant town centre for all."
“The Camden Local Government Area (LGA) is one of the fastest growing areas in NSW. As Council and the community grow, it is essential the capacity to deliver Council’s quality services grows with it," she said.
Incurring a total of $35M in cost, the new building is the largest capital works project Council has ever undertaken. Construction of the new building is expected to be completed by mid 2016 and will eventually accommodate 400 staff. The building will be located within the Oran Park Town Centre and will be co-located with a $22m Aquatic Centre, $12m Library and $3.5m Town Park to be delivered by the project team.
Matthew Beggs, General Manager, Retail Transition said this event is a major milestone that represents many years of work by the Oran Park team.
"Breaking ground for Camden Council's new Central Administration Building is a huge moment for Oran Park Town and comes after years of thoughtful toil by our team. When Council opens its doors in 2016, it will anchor the civic presence and be a major catalyst for this fast evolving town. Congratulations to the Oran Park Town team!"
