Construction progress
Overview
We are delivering a new sports precinct for Macarthur Heights – an important recreation space designed to support sport, connection and healthy lifestyles for local residents and the broader community.
Construction started in early 2025 to level the site and complete bulk earthworks. Work has continued in May 2026 with the sportfields and landscaping now under construction. The amenities building is a separate package of works which we expect to commence later this year. We are in the process of selecting a Contractor for the amenities building, once the contract is awarded, we will provide further details of the construction program for these works. We are focused on delivering the works as efficiently as possible, however, construction of the sportsfields is complex.
We expect works to be finished in 2027. The package of works has been split to allow the construction of the sportsfields to progress ahead of the amenities building and to provide access to areas of open space to the community as early as possible.
We are committed to providing regular construction updates on our website as work progresses.
Latest update - July 2026
What we’re working on
The landscaping works for the sportfields commenced from May 2026, with the following works underway:
- site establishment, surveys, vegetation clearing and delivery of construction machinery
- ongoing vegetation removal, drainage excavation and sportsfield topsoil preparation
- procurement underway for lighting, irrigation drainage

- Electrical, drainage, earthworks.
Project snapshot
The sportsfields precinct will include:
- two sports playing fields suitable for a range of sports
- spectator area
- LED sportsfield lighting
- new landscaping and open green space
- pathways through the site
- off-street car parking spaces
- a connecting section of the Macarthur Regional Recreational Trail
- an amenities building which forms part of a separate package of works will include change rooms and associated facilities, meeting room, cricket nets, multi-use sports court, all-abilities playground and picnic tables with shelters.
Why this project is important
This project has been designed to support the community by:
- providing space for local sport and recreation
- supporting community sporting events
- improving walking and cycling connections
- enhancing health and wellbeing
- contributing to a connected, active neighbourhood.
Macarthur Heights has been planned with significant open space and community infrastructure to support long-term liveability. There are a number of parks and open spaces within Macarthur Heights that include Mainridge Park, Claremont Park and Lake Thomson.

What’s next
Once the construction of the sportsfields has progressed and enabling works have been completed, the amenities building package of works will commence. These final package of works will include:
- change rooms and associated facilities including toilets, canteen and meeting room
- multi-use court*
- cricket nets (3)
- off-street car parking
- all-abilities playground
- spectator area
- picnic tables and shelters
*Based on community feedback received in 2024, the multi-use court has been designed to include a half basketball court, tennis and pickleball court.
