Park construction progress

Works are well underway to deliver four hectares of waterfront public space at Wentworth Point.

Ground remediation and earthworks to stabilise the site are progressing, and we recently finished piling to create a stable base for the access road.

Seawall construction is underway, with different sized rocks being installed to reduce wave erosion, help protect the restored saltmarsh and support marine life.

We will soon install sewer and water pipes to service the park and future mixed-use development, and start building the new shared path. This will provide a key pedestrian and cycle link through the park to the ferry wharf.

Work hours are 7am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am-4pm Saturdays. As the site is low-lying, works may pause during wet weather and then safely continue once the site is dry.

Subject to weather and approvals, park construction should finish in mid-2026.

Mixed-use development plans being assessed

In December 2024 we submitted a State Significant Development Application to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to guide future mixed-use development at 9 Burroway Road, in a smaller area to what was previously approved for development. The application includes a design concept for future development up to nine storeys, providing much-needed homes, new shops and additional open space.

The application was informed by community and stakeholder feedback, site investigations, regulatory requirements and feasibility considerations.

In May we responded to submissions received when the application was publicly exhibited from 31 January to 27 February 2025, providing more information to inform the Department's assessment.

We expect the Department will determine the application later this year. To view the application and our response to submissions, visit the Department’s website.

The mixed-use site is expected to be sold in 2025. The future owner will need to get a separate development application approved before construction can begin.
