UDIA Awards achievements

Thornton won the award for ‘Excellence in Government Leadership for Urban Development’, and Macarthur Heights received a Commendation for ‘Excellence in Residential Development’. These two awards, along with our other shortlisted finalists, reflect the work our organisation delivers on behalf of the NSW Government and the reputation we continue to uphold across the development industry.

Development Director for Thornton, Mike Williams, took to the stage with the General Manager of Penrith City Council, Alan Stoneham, to accept the accolade.

“The collaborative approach and shared leadership between UrbanGrowth NSW and Penrith City Council has been absolutely instrumental to the delivery of Thornton,” Mike said.

“By developing a shared vision we were able to overcome traditional barriers in the planning system and deliver a landmark project that will be referenced as an industry benchmark for many years to come.”

General Manager of Wholesale Projects, Stuart McGowan, noted that collaboration is a corporate value.

“I’m immensely proud of the collaborative relationship built with the council and believe the project will influence the shape of major new developments across Sydney in decades to come,” Mr McGowan.

Macarthur Heights’ commendation recognises our strong and successful partnerships, in this case, with the University of Western Sydney (UWS) Campbelltown. The 850 lot project demonstrates best practice in transit-oriented development and aims to create better connections between the UWS Campbelltown Campus, TAFE and the Macarthur train statio
