Our projects can provide opportunities for skilling and developing the workforce now and into the future. We work with TAFE NSW to develop programs that address the specific skills requirements of the development project, and provide education and training opportunities as well as employment pathways for participating students.

Skills Exchange

The Skills Exchange program is a key element of Landcom’s Research and Learning function and demonstrates Landcom’s strong commitment to lifelong learning and social sustainability. Skills Exchange is one of several initiatives Landcom is progressing with TAFE NSW under the Landcom/TAFE Framework Agreement signed in 2017.

The establishment of the Skills Exchange program seeks to provide clear pathways for local people to access local jobs. In collaboration with job placement providers and employers, the focus will be on recruiting the long term unemployed and under-employed into TAFE NSW skilled programs to ensure they can access vital upskilling training and relevant skilled industry work experience and ultimately, long-term employment.

Landcom is requiring contractors on our projects to employ individuals who complete the Skills Exchange program in relevant, local work.

Skills Exchange 2018

Where has Landcom run the Skills Exchange?

The first Skills Exchange program, which was a partnership between Landcom, NSW Land & Housing Corporation and TAFE NSW, commenced in March and concluded in May with ten residents from Claymore and Airds graduating. The students participated in an eight week training course to gain a Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation.

Five students have been offered positions with contractor Western Earthmoving, which is undertaking civil works to enable future residential development at the Newbrook project. The other five students will be connected with labour hire companies to help their job search.

Will Landcom run other Skills Exchange programs?

Landcom is exploring options to expand the Skills Exchange program to other projects.
