OVERVIEW
The Potts Hill reservoirs site has been used by Sydney Water for more than 100 years and plays a role in supplying water to Sydney. Sydney Water no longer requires portions of the site for operational purposes. In partnership with Landcom, Sydney Water has developed options for redeveloping these areas.
The redevelopment proposal for Potts Hill covers approximately 40 hectares of the 116 hectare site. If approved, the development would provide around 400 homes. These homes would mainly be single houses but may also include two smaller areas of medium density development such as town houses, seniors housing and small scale apartments. Four new parks and a business park providing jobs for 800 – 900 people are also proposed.
Key features of the project include:
- New housing – a variety of housing types will be provided for up to 1,200 new residents. Some of these homes will be located to take advantage of views over Western Sydney to the Blue Mountains.
- Employment opportunities – a 15 hectare business park will provide jobs for 800-900 people including Sydney Water employees.
- New parks – four areas of open space will be located throughout the residential area, opening up part of the site to public access for the first time.
A Concept Plan Environmental Assessment has been prepared for the Potts Hill project under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. The Environmental Assessment is now open for public comment. If the project is approved, construction is expected to commence in late 2009 for the business park and in late 2010 for the residential precinct.
