ROUSE HILL TOWN CENTRE WINS AWARDS
The GPT Group’s Rouse Hill Town Centre developed in partnership with the Department of Planning, Lend Lease and Landcom won two prestigious design awards over the weekend, one a people’s choice award for the environment and the other voted by industry and design professionals for Urban Design.
The popular People’s Choice Award is one of the categories in the 2008 Banksia Awards which recognises people, organisations and governments for environmental excellence.
Landcom’s Sustainability and Policy Director, Steve Driscoll congratulated The GPT Group for setting new standards in environmental sustainability.
“ Rouse Hill Town Centre has clearly won the hearts of the community in Sydney’s Northwest with its vibrant open spaces, pedestrian friendly streets and reduced eco-footprint.
" It offers more than a traditional shopping centre experience with its ground breaking sustainability initiatives,” said Mr Driscoll.
Rouse Hill Town Centre is the heart of the 120-hectare The New Rouse Hill in Northwest Sydney. The New Rouse Hill is a joint venture project between The GPT Group and Lend Lease and was developed in partnership with the Department of Planning and Landcom.
Rouse Hill Town Centre also impressed design professionals, winning the Lloyd Rees Award for Urban Design voted by the Australian Institute of Architects, NSW Chapter.
Allen Jack+Cottier, together with Rice Daubney and Group GSA (in association with the masterplan designer Civitas Urban Design and Planning) were recognised for their masterplanning and design of Rouse Hill Town Centre.
Mr Driscoll said Rouse Hill Town Centre was culmination of more than 20 years of planning by the NSW Government to provide for Sydney’s future growth.
“ Landcom who set a vision for The New Rouse Hill is proud to collaborate with The GPT Group, its architects and designers and Lend Lease in order to create a world class community.
“The Rouse Hill Town Centre masterplan and design sets a new benchmark in the creation of Town Centres.”
Mr Driscoll said Landcom will use the design principles of Rouse Hill Town Centre to apply them in the design of other key urban developments such as Green Square Town Centre and Oran Park.
