THE SESSIONS | Three concurrent sessions will address contemporary thinking on the design of the home, the neighbourhood and the development of community. We have gathered together six leading thearists and practicioners who will share their perspective on putting the pieces together.

HOST | James O’Loghlin
James O’Loghlin is one of Australia’s leading comedians and media personalities. Since 2004 he has hosted ‘The New Inventors’ on ABC TV.
From 2002 to 2006 he hosted ‘The Evening Show’ on 702 ABC Sydney and ABC Local Radio around NSW and the ACT. James is currently writing a book on Work/Life Balance and has written and hosted his own television shows, and written and performed several popular live comedy shows, including “Lawyer Lawyer”, about his 8 years as a corporate and criminal lawyer.
KEYNOTE ADDRESS | Keith Suter
Dr Keith Suter is one of the world’s great thinkers and communicators. A foremost speaker on global issues, as well as a highly regarded social commentator, strategic planner, writer and broadcaster, Keith appears on radio and is the global issues/foreign affairs presenter on the Channel 7 ‘Sunrise’ program.
Keith has an extraordinary mind and extensive knowledge: his expertise covers International Affairs, Law, Society, Leadership, Business, and the Future.
Keith is a member of the most prestigious global think tank in the world, The Club of Rome, comprised of only 100 members including people such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Bill Gates, Al Gore and Jimmy Carter. The Club of Rome meets regularly to discuss and analyse the social, political, economic, and environmental issues of the day and how those issues impact on us now and into the future.

The Home
Peter Stronach
Peter Stronach is a principal of architects Allen Jack+Cottier. Peter is an advocate for local and national architectural issues. His concern for livability and the environment - and how these dimensions inform each other - underpins 35 years of design, from single houses to community developments.
As the Director of Allen Jack+Cottier’s urban design section, Peter draws on his involvement in the runner-up design for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Village masterplan (Aurora consortium). He was the first person to promote the idea of housing athletes in relocatable housing units, which became the key to successful delivery of the Village. He has also been involved in major projects such as the Kogarah Town Centre and Sydney University Village.
Peter Ellyard
Dr Peter Ellyard is a futurist and strategic analyst. A graduate of the University of Sydney and Cornell University, he is an Executive Director of Melbourne based company, Preferred Futures which he founded in 1991.
Peter works with organisations and communities to help plan for both 'thrival and thrivability' in the 21st century. A former Executive Director for the Australian Commission for the Future (1988-1991), he previously held CEO positions in a number of public sector organisations, including two Environment Departments and an Industry and Technology Department.
The Neighbourhood
Jon Lang
Jon Lang is a Professor in Architecture of the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales and teaches Urban Design and Architectural Theory.
Jon’s experience includes professional practice in North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Europe, as well as academic appointments in North America.
An accomplished writer, Jon has written or co-written numerous books and has been a member of international design juries. He has also presented lectures at numerous international events.
Jon’s professional work includes a strong interest in urban renewal schemes and guideline writing for large scale urban projects. He’s a firm believer that good design is informed by good theory.
The Community
Marla Guppy
Marla Guppy is the director of Guppy & Associates, a Sydney based planning consultancy providing specialist services to Government, arts, community and the corporate sector in cultural planning, civic processes and public art development.
Established in 1989, Guppy & Associates have completed a wide range of assignments including community renewal, facilities development, city cultural plans and major art projects. A strong advocate for cultural sustainability in urban Australia, Marla is the current public art co-ordinator for Landcom’s development of The Ponds in western Sydney.
Andrew McAnulty
Andrew McAnulty is a qualified General Practice Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) and member of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIOH), and has been involved in delivery of affordable housing and regeneration outcomes in the UK for the past 15 years.
Andrew led the redevelopment of one of the largest single site regeneration projects in the UK, Stonebridge.
Stonebridge is a multi-award winning urban regeneration scheme, which recognised that investing in people and community infrastructure was a positive solution to antisocial behaviour, unemployment, crime, health and poor quality housing environment.
The success of Stonebridge has led to value uplift, and the ability to recycle profit in order to achieve the vision.
